A marvelous book, American Byzantium is a must for the photography addict, even if you arent a Las Vegas fan. Hancocks large format photographs are stunning in their clarity and composition. While my favorite oeuvre of VHIII remains Open Range and Parking Lots, this newest book is a most welcome addition to the work of a talented photographer who knows light, color, and composition. Bravo!
Its a smallish book with not quite the usual photos that we normally see and are familiar with. I love Las Vegas and love Las Vegas books. This one is just one of the bunch. Not really a stand out but all together not bad. Its a good to average read, photos interesting but not that memorable. Keep looking I think, there are better books out there.
